English Tutors
Number of volunteers needed: ∞
Time commitment: 1 hour/week for 6 months.
Location: Client’s home
As an English tutor, you could work to support:
Beginner adult English language learners who are seeking to learn or improve their English skills in order to build confidence, navigate life in a new culture, and support their family
An advanced adult English language learner who is seeking to strengthen their writing skills
What support is provided for volunteers?
Training with a certified teacher in Special Education, Adult Education, ESL, and as a Reading Specialist
English tutoring kits with an Oxford picture dictionary and other materials
WhatsApp Group For English Tutors to support one another

Speaking Amharic, Arabic, Dari, French, Kinyarwanda, Pashto, Spanish, Swahili, or Tigrinya is not required for this volunteer role. But if you do speak any of these languages, you are encouraged to sign up.
Personal Finance Skills Volunteer who speaks Dari, Pashto, Spanish, Russian, or Ukrainian
Number of volunteers currently needed: 22
Time commitment: 1 hour weekly for up to 3 months
Location: Virtual
Sewing Volunteer
Number of volunteers currently needed: 5
In this role, you would provide guidance and support to students who are enrolled in the Heela Sewing Course as they work to complete sewing projects.
Time commitment: Once a week for 11 weeks
Location: Virtual check-ins or at client’s home to drop off materials
Strong sewing skills are needed to volunteer in this capacity.
Transportation Independence Program Volunteer
As a Transportation Independence Program Volunteer, there are 4 ways to get involved:
Bus Guide – GRTC Support
Tutor – Learner's Permit Support
DMV Guide – DMV Navigation Support
Behind the Wheel Volunteer – Basic Driving Skills Support
Time commitment:
GRTC Support 3-4 hours
Learner’s Permit Support 2 hours/week for 6-8 weeks
DMV Navigation Support 1-3 hours
Basic Driving Skills Support 6-10 hours
